Patient Support Services
The transplant process can be long and difficult for patients and their families. NH-BMT is committed to providing you with support and resources during the transplant and post-transplant periods. During your treatment and survivorship, please also refer to the following Northside Cancer Institute Support and Survivorship website, Patient Resources, Websites and Support Groups.
Financial coordinators
Patients will meet with both BMTGA and Northside Hospital financial coordinators at the beginning of the BMT/leukemia/immunotherapy process to assist with financial and insurance-related planning. Financial coordinators are available throughout the entire transplant process.
We accept most major health insurance plans, including Medicare and Georgia Medicaid.
Your insurance coverage will depend on your individual policy.
Researching the details of your policy will help you plan effectively for the cost of your transplant.
Our financial coordinators are available to work with you to help you understand your policy deductibles, coinsurance, policy maximum(s), COBRA, prescription coverage, and other potential out-of-pocket expenses. Please review Financial Team.
Health psychologist
The NH-BMT Program has a full-time, dedicated health psychologist who monitors patients’ cognitive and emotional status prior to and during various stages of treatment. The health psychologist offers patients and families in-depth emotional support, assesses and teaches coping skills, and teaches relaxation and stress management techniques. Please review Dr. Speckhart’s Bio.
The NH-BMT Program is associated with The Network of Hope, a program that matches patients who have already undergone transplantation with new transplant patients who are initiating the transplant process.
The Network of Hope joins patients and survivors by similar background details (diagnosis, age, type of transplant) to have an opportunity to learn about the transplant experience from a patient’s perspective.
The ‘survivor’ provides support, knowledge and compassion to the patient undergoing transplantation.
Please read Dr. Speckhart’s Network of Hope Letter for more information.
Social Worker
A specially trained and licensed clinical social worker, within the Northside Hospital Psych-Oncology Department, provides patients and their caregivers with support, guidance, and psychological assistance through all phases of treatment and into survivorship.
